More Tips for 2 Pound Live Lobsters

You can still find 2 pound live lobster at a good price, but your choices are more limited than with quarters and halves. Likewise, you can still probably fit a 2 pound lobster in an 8-quart pot, but you’ll have to cook them one at a time. With a 16- or 20-quart pot, you can comfortably fit 2-3 lobsters at one time. This size lobster will take, on average, between 10-12 minutes in boiling water. Thus, it’s essential that you get an oversized pot if you’re cooking lobsters for a sizable dinner party.

It will take some combination of experience and intuition to consistently cook 2 pound lobsters well, but it can be done even without the touch of a gourmet seafood chef. Keep in mind, too, that unless the lobster company specifically lists 2, 2.25, and 2.5 lobster categories, you might end up getting a couple lobsters in your order that are a little bigger than 2 pounds.

A 2 pound lobster should yield about 6-7 oz of cooked lobster with the following nutritional information:

  • 180-190 grams, 6-7 oz
  • 170-180 calories
  • 35-37 grams of protein
  • 115-125 mg of cholesterol
  • 2 grams of fat
