The second-biggest wholesaler of Maine lobster in the world, Lobster Trap has been in the business of delivering fresh, hard-shell Maine lobster since 1972. Lobster Trap maintains two different websites and co-brands. Lobster Trap is the main company name, while Lobsters Online is their eCommerce site. For queries related to sales or customer service, it’s best to contact the company through Lobsters Online. If you’re interested in their business structure, international exports, company and industry-related news, you want to visit the Lobster Trap website.

Now that that’s cleared up, you can get to placing your lobster order. Know that you’re in good hands with this major lobster brand, especially when hosting larger group events for which you need dozens or even hundreds of pounds of lobster.

Lobsters Online uses UPS to ship their live lobster express overnight. Deliveries are typically made between 9am and 5pm Tuesday through Saturday, though there are exceptions. Rural areas tend to get their orders later in the day. Saturday delivery service is limited and incurs an additional fee. Customers in Hawaii and Alaska need to contact the company directly to request delivery and get a custom shipping quote. Otherwise, the shipping cost is calculated automatically when checking out and is determined by the size of your order and your exact location. Orders must be placed by 2:30pm Eastern Time for next-day delivery, but larger orders as well as oversized lobsters may require a few days’ notice to complete.

Live lobsters are placed in a special insulated carton and packed with ice packs. Larger quantities of lobster may be placed in a specially prepared carton with Styrofoam compartments. This allows the company to guarantee the lobsters will be alive when they arrive at your doorstep. As with other UPS shipments, you’ll get a UPS tracking number that allows you to monitor the progress of your shipment in transit.

Harvesting Methods

One of the largest lobster companies in North America, Lobster Trap has decades of experience with sustainable harvesting practices and incredibly fast turnaround times, even when dealing with high sales and shipping volume. Their 100,000 pound holding capacity includes a state-of-the-art facility with fresh ocean water flowing through tanks and returning the water to the ocean cleaner than it started. Lobster Trap is not only HACCP-approved and federally-inspected, Lobster Trap also boasts a TSA-approved Certified Cargo screening facility. Four different facility locations provide access to 14 million pounds of lobster. If you’re looking a small-scale, family-owned, direct-sales from individual lobstermen, Lobster Trap may not be the best choice. But for larger lobster orders that still deliver premium-quality lobster, this is one of the few options where you can feel confident the company can handle your order.

Lobster Trap and Lobsters Online has a great recipe for lobster mac n cheese and general instructions for storing, cooking, and eating live lobster.
