Get to Know James Hook & Company
James Hook & Company is the definition of a family-owned business. It was in 1925 that James Hook started bringing the lobsters he caught in Maine and Canada back to Boston. Fine dining restaurants, wholesale seafood distributors, and individual consumers in Boston and around the country have fallen in love with this iconic lobster brand. Today, the third-generation of the Hook Family is running a modern-day fresh-caught hard-shell lobster business that ships over 50,000 pounds of lobster each day. Nearly a century later, they still consistently prioritize bringing quality lobster and seafood to online, wholesale, and retail markets.
Visit their local Boston restaurant and retail seafood market at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Northern Avenue, or get their lobster and seafood shipped directly to your doorstep.

Shipping
James Hook & Company uses FedEx Overnight delivery with available delivery dates from Tuesday to Saturday most weeks of the year. Saturday usually incurs an additional fee. For next day delivery, orders must be received by 2pm EST Monday through Thursday. Your shipment is actively monitored. Live lobster is guaranteed to arrive alive at your doorstep. The shipping rates are based on the total weight of the products and packaging being shipped. The final shipping cost is calculated when you checkout, but you can typically add a few pounds worth of styrofoam, gel packs, seaweed, etc. in addition to the weight of your lobster and seafood order.
With this in mind, the shipping rates are as follows:
Up to 8 lbs $79.99
Up to 10 lbs $89.99
Up to 14 lbs $109.99
Up to 18 lbs $129.99
Up to 25 lbs $139.99
Up to 40 lbs $159.99
Up to 50 lbs $299.99
Harvesting Methods
Here, too, James Hook & Company can point to a long-standing tradition of selling their lobster straight off the boat every day. There is no diseased, pounded lobster here. It’s all fresh-caught, cold-water, hard-shell New England lobster. And with this company’s size and institutional memory, they know how to ship perishable and live lobster pretty much everywhere in the continental U.S.
It’s impossible to for us to independently verify every single lobster is Grade-A quality when a company is shipping over 50,000 pounds of lobster every day. But again, size has its advantages. Whether you’re looking to host a dinner for the family or buy a bulk order of 50lbs or more for a special event.
